State Posters Project

The goal of this project was to create 4 different concept state posters containing elements that describe the state without displaying the state’s name. Along with the concept illustrations, the posters include the state’s slogan. The 4 states that I chose included Connecticut (my home state), Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine. Here is how I developed these posters.

Design Rational

I wanted to create my posters with state elements and state animals shaped with the typography. The typography in each state element is the phrase you see in state license plates. For Maine, I had two different approaches in case one did not work out. In this case, the lobster worked better than the moose.

Design Process

Typography Breakdown

The Typography for each state slogan is made with 4 parts. This process creates an organic and stand out type face In the final result.

The Color palette is sampled from each American state flag. The 4 states I chose have similar repeating color patterns such as navy blue, green, and a gold-ish yellow. I kept the colors consistent while using different shades from each flag to make the posters different from each other.

Paper Texture

The final posters are now added into photoshop for a paper texture. The blending mode is called linear burn.
